Lin Feng CV

Lin Feng is an interactive artist and visual creator born in Shanghai and based in New York. Her work moves between the digital and the physical, drawing on photography, field recording, found objects, and site-specific material to construct immersive audiovisual experiences that sit somewhere between memory and place.

Across her practice, a recurring concern surfaces: the things that once held meaning but have lost their function, and what remains when use fades but memory does not. Eight Immortals Table takes this as its literal subject. The installation centers on a traditional elm wood table that once anchored Chinese domestic life, using 3D scanning, TouchDesigner visuals, and interactive elements to explore how familial rituals erode in a fast-moving digital era. Visitors are invited to sit, make tea, and reflect, the table becoming a site for cross-cultural conversation about what we inherit and what we let go. Phantom of the Fest approaches the same feeling from a different angle, projecting an animated narrative onto an abandoned fountain at Pratt Institute. The piece follows a cycle of gathering and dispersal, guardianship and loneliness, tracing the life of a space through the stories it can no longer hold.

What connects these works is not a fixed medium but a shared impulse: to find the residue of lived experience in overlooked or obsolete objects, and to ask what transformation does to meaning. Her ongoing series Wanderlust extends this inquiry outward, into geography and travel. Each chapter takes a different city as its starting point, building Unity-based mixed reality environments from photographs and field recordings gathered while drifting through that place. The work is less about documenting a location than about what happens to perception and recollection in the process of translation, especially as personal memory becomes entangled with collective and algorithmically mediated versions of the same experience. Japan Dérive, the first work in the series, has been presented in Tokyo, Long Island, and Brooklyn. Lin holds a BFA in Visual Communication and an MFA in Digital Arts from Pratt Institute.
